LogiMAT 2018

Faubel to show RFID applications with e-paper display at LogiMAT.

For the first time, Faubel will be taking part in the international trade fair for intralogistics solutions and process management, LogiMAT in Stuttgart. From March 13 to 15, 2018, we will be welcoming visitors to Hall 4, Booth G15. "By acquiring SIL System Integration Laboratory GmbH which develops products containing RFID and e-paper for the world of automation, we have widened our portfolio for the logistics industry and process management," explains Frank Jäger, a member of Faubel's executive board, who is in charge of business development, marketing and R&D at Faubel. The company's special focus is on so-called smart labels which combine the functionality of labels with RFID technology and e-paper.

Safe transportation

Smart Labels cover a wide range of applications. At LogiMAT, for example, Faubel will present a project in which its Smart Label is able to localize or identify goods that are transported in cash cassettes (Cashbox). To this end, an active-matrix display is fitted into a sturdy plastic frame and fixed to the cash cassette with screws. The relevant information is continually displayed on e-paper for the carrier's attention and any tampering becomes visible on the display. The cassette is protected by a key-lock system so that only authorized users can open it. All the data is recorded and controlled by suitable software.

Optimized intralogistics

E-paper-based smart labels are an efficient alternative to paper labels, especially if labeled products are to be monitored and constantly updated with new information. Logistics companies use their reusable plastic containers to carry different types of goods in closed loops. "Unlike paper versions with barcodes, Smart Labels don't need replacing. Data such as destination, storage location and content can be changed and containers traced at any time," says Jäger.

Visualizing logistics

Visitors to Faubel's booth will be given more details on this and other projects as well as a joint presentation by Petra Schäffner, Business Development Manager at Faubel, and Alexander Oppermann, Development Engineer at SIL. On March 13, 2018, from 10:45 to 11:15am, they will be talking about "Visualizing Logistics 4.0 - how intelligent e-paper labels can make data visible and optimize processes" in Forum C, Hall 4.

If a defect occurs in the system, this has no impact on the quality of display available on the monitor: high safety standards are therefore maintained.
