FachPack 2019 Review

Focus on "environmentally friendly packaging" — how sustainable are smart labels?

With around 44,000 visitors and almost 1,600 exhibitors, FachPack in Nuremberg was, once again this year, a highlight in the European packaging industry. At its booth In Hall 9 the Faubel Group presented a cross-section of its comprehensive product portfolio. Our booth was supervised by Petra Schäffner, Business Development Manager for South Germany, and Andreas Bartling, Business Development Manager for North Germany.

Labels that help save resources

Paying tribute to this year's FachPack focus on "environmentally friendly packaging", visitors showed particular interest in the actual sustainability of exhibits. "Whenever electronics is used for labeling, most visitors tend to believe that the so-called smart labels are only partly sustainable. But in fact, quite the opposite is true," Petra Schäffner explained. Smart labels such as the Faubel Logistics Label — where batteryless e-paper displays are controlled by RFID tags — are expected to replace paper labels in the long term. "Thanks to dynamic labeling, we can save years of paper label production and distribution," Schäffner adds.

Advertising with green added value

Apart from the Faubel Logistics Label, there was another product from the Faubel Creative Solutions business unit which attracted particular attention in visitors from the food industry: post seed®. This promotional tool which can be designed as a label, a tag, a giveaway or an insert, is filled with high-quality plant seeds. In the numerous conversations she had during the three days of the fair, Petra Schäffner underlined the fact that "post seed® is not just a label or a giveaway, but always conveys a sustainable brand message. Seeds definitely create green added value for consumers".
